Stock Market Recap — Sep 22, 2026
Oil falls after US-Iran diplomacy eases supply fears
Oil set the tone, reversing an overnight surge as supply-risk fears eased. The Nasdaq reached another record, but policy shifts, drug data and private-credit stress drove pronounced single-stock divergence. • Oil/Geopolitics: Brent rose above $102 on tanker attacks and scarce vessels, then settled 1.1% lower at $99.25 after productive US-Iran talks and reports Saudi Arabia could restart its East-West pipeline. Crude extended losses after hours amid conflicting Hormuz reports. • Refiners/Policy: VLO, MPC and PSX fell after the administration said diesel-export restrictions were under review, reversing an earlier denial as retail prices hit $6.53 a gallon. • Obesity Drugs: VKTX surged about 30% after maintenance dosing preserved most weight loss. Roche's enicepatide delivered 15.5% average weight loss, supporting Phase 3 plans for early 2027. • Credit/Housing: APO faced pressure after its Debt Solutions BDC again capped withdrawals and Atlas confronted a potential $1.1 billion MFS loss. KBH cut its margin outlook, while LEN gained after Berkshire raised its stake. • AI Disruption: Muse-related disruption fears hit Schwab, Allstate, Planet Fitness and online travel shares even as the Nasdaq set a second consecutive record.
