Stocks retreat after Brent rebounds toward $105
Early risk appetite improved on cheaper oil, but the tone reversed as energy-supply fears revived inflation pressure and weak factory output clouded growth. Bitcoin and AI-services catalysts created pockets of strength, while sanctions and private-credit headlines added after-hours risk. • Oil/Rates: WTI fell below $100 before Brent erased its decline and approached $105 following reports that a tanker was struck in the Strait of Hormuz. Saudi Aramco withheld October crude from European term buyers, the 10-year Treasury yield retook 5%, and US indexes turned lower. • Crypto: Bitcoin topped $80,000, lifting Coinbase, Strategy and MARA by more than 10%, after tokenized-stock exemptions and $160 million of ETF inflows supported demand. • Single Stocks: Netflix sank more than 5% after Wells Fargo downgraded the shares, while Volkswagen cut its margin outlook because of China weakness, restructuring costs and a Porsche writedown. • After Hours: Accenture jumped nearly 9% after announcing a $2 billion combined AI-safety investment with Anthropic. A new Russia sanctions law widened tariff risk, while Morgan Stanley’s North Haven private-credit fund again limited redemptions.
