Stock Market Recap — Aug 25, 2026
Stocks and Treasuries rally after Brent tumbles 3.9%
Equities finished higher and Treasuries rallied as a sharp oil decline eased inflation pressure, outweighing weak US demand data and company-specific disappointments. Technology provided support, but the clearest stock reactions came from Dick’s Sporting Goods during regular trading and Intuit after hours. • Oil/Macro: Brent settled 3.9% lower at $88.58 after Iran and Oman discussed a temporary shipping corridor, despite another tanker incident. The 10-year yield fell 6.5 basis points to 4.638%; the Nasdaq gained 0.7%, while the S&P 500 and Dow rose 0.3%. • Retail: Dick’s plunged a record 27% after cutting operating-income guidance and projecting soft Foot Locker comparable sales, with the warning also pressuring Nike and Lululemon. • Semiconductors: Nvidia drew mixed signals. An Indian data-center project ordered 9,000 Vera Rubin systems, while Taiwan charged employees in a China export case and OpenAI said Broadcom’s chip beat the GB300 in internal inference tests. • Software/After-hours: Intuit fell about 14% after forecasting fiscal 2027 revenue growth of 9%-10%, below Wall Street’s roughly 11% estimate.
