Oil hits one-month high after Iran withholds Hormuz reopening
Risk appetite broadened from crypto and AI-linked shares early to commodities later, but company-specific regulatory and labor risks kept the tape uneven. Firm US activity supported growth, while dollar weakness and geopolitical supply constraints lifted hard assets into the close. • Oil/Iran: WTI ended at $87.06, up 6.9% for the week and near a one-month high, as Tehran withheld reopening the Strait of Hormuz pending US guarantees. Kpler warned Chinese refiners could face virtually no fresh Iranian supply from late September. • Crypto: Bitcoin surged as much as 9.4% above $79,000, lifting Strategy about 10% premarket and Coinbase and Robinhood more than 5%. • Macro/Metals: The August US composite PMI reached a four-year high of 56, while the dollar index hit its weakest since May and gold gained 1.4%. Freeport-McMoRan rose 7.6% to a record. • Corporate Risk: China recalled nearly 3 million Teslas over door-handle risks, Dutch regulators confirmed an €825 million Uber fine, and Boeing engineers authorized strike action after rejecting contracts. • AI/Tech: Nvidia pursued possible deals with Rebellions and data-center power developer Cloverleaf, while Apple cut more than 200 jobs to redirect resources toward AI and smart glasses.
